AAR Career Guide for Minorities

I am happy to announce an interactive e-book I had the pleasure of editing - The AAR Career Guide for Racial and Ethnic Minorities in the Profession.  As of yesterday it is on-line ready for your use at http://www.aarweb.org/about/board/rem/careerguide/.  The manual's usefulness is not limited to the task of obtaining a job, but covers the entire academic career, beginning with the consideration of graduate school, and onward to retiring from the profession. Written from the perspective of marginalized groups, the contributors explain situations normally faced by candidates of color that are due to institutionalized racism and ethnic discrimination.


As you will read, their encounters differ greatly from those experienced by their Euro-American counterparts.  Because it is an electronic manual, the information can be easily obtained and constantly updated. The manuscript was also designed to be interactive. As you read, you too can add your insights and suggestions. We provided discussion boards linked to each topic to allow you, the reader, to post comments, experiences, and wisdom gained. The AAR Career Guide for Racial and Ethnic Minorities in the Profession intentionally moves away from the salient individualism of the dominant culture toward a communal format more indigenous to our own cultures. It is a project we hope all scholars of color will have a hand in contributing to and forming.  We sincerely hope you will find this guide helpful throughout your academic career.  Below you will find the table of contents of the Guide.
