The Center for Hispanic Ministries, Province VII

The Reverend Jaime Case, Director

The mission of the Center for Hispanic Ministries is to advocate and promote evangelism among Hispanics and serve as a center for all people in the Seventh Province of the Episcopal Church.  The center pursues its mission by providing resources for Hispanic ministry on its web site and through consulting and programs offered by its director.

Province VII includes the central southern part of the U.S.A. The Center works within and beyond the Province to promote Hispanic ministry and find the best practices for evangelism.

The Reverend Jaime Case, a graduate of ETSS, began his tenure as executive director of Province VII's Center for Hispanic Ministries -- the only such provincial resource center in the Episcopal Church -- in June 2003. Prior to that appointment, he was vicar of San Francisco de Asis mission in Austin and executive director of El Buen Samaritano, the parish's outreach ministry, for nine years.   The Reverend Case, who grew up in the Philippines with missionary parents, has a multicultural view buttressed by diversity, culture, language and mission.

Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest

Dr. Wayne Menking, Director

As an extension program of Wartburg Theological Seminary and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest is exclusively devoted to preparing women and men for ministry in the cross-cultural realities of the Southwest. LSPS offers a full four-year program leading to the Master of Divinity degree. Housed on the campus of the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, LSPS shares some core curriculum courses with its ETSS partners, including cultural immersion courses, missiology, biblical theology, church history and pastoral care.

In addition to the courses required in most seminaries, i.e. biblical theology, systematic theology, church history, pastoral care, homiletics and worship, LSPS students are required to take Spanish each semester. Intensive Spanish language courses are sometimes offered abroad in locations such as Guatemala and Mexico. Other courses, such as cross-cultural conflict resolution, help prepare students for ministry in the Hispanic cross cultural realities of the Southwest.

Because of its small size, LSPS is able to offer students a rich community life that includes daily worship in an ecumenical setting, close relationships with faculty, and supportive relationships with fellow students.
